Messed up ABC's

Hola everybody! This was the last week of the transfer, meaning it was the most eventful. I have no idea why it happens like that, it just does.

Funny story of the week:

We found this guy from Mexico who moved here from Texas (he spoke mostly English to us). He was very drunk, but it was ok because he was happy drunk. He said he was Catholic but believed more in Hinduism.

As we talked to him he unwittingly recounted the Restoration of the Gospel to us. His version consisted of all of the points of the restoration lesson from the beginning up until the great apostasy, but with a whole lot more profanity.

We asked him if we could come back when he wasn't drunk because anyone who can cover that much of the first lesson we normally teach whilst being completely hammered at least deserves to learn about the Word of Wisdom.

Oh yeah, there was more too...

He went to the Russia world cup. So the other thing that blew his mind was that I could read the Cyrillic characters on the pack of cigarettes he bought there...

"Y'all probably didn't know this, but they got these *messed* up ABC's over there."

He also told us that Russians were just colder Mexicans.

And he got in a fight in a bar in Germany (he had it coming). After they had beat him up, they stood him up, gave him a beer and continued as normal. So evidently he had paid what was required for whatever he said.

Missionary Stuff:

As for the other aspects of missionary work this week. It is going very well. We had a lot of people who weren't members at church this Sunday.

The majority of whom were Peruvians

During Sunday school everyone was introducing themselves. There were 10 Peruvians who went before me. When I said, "SOY ELDER HAZESLIP, DE ARKANSAS" everybody started laughing. Then another 4 Peruvians, a Mexican, and an Argentinian introduced themselves.

I also went on two (2) exchanges this week. One right after the other.  It was pretty crazy.

The first one was in Shoshone with Elder Woodin. We had a good time and had gas station fried chicken for lunch. We lived. It was actually pretty good.

The second was in Jerome with Elder Miller! We had a good time but we spent most of the exchange just running errands (because that's what Zone Leaders do). I also got to drive "Sheeba" (the name given to the white Toyota Tacoma normally driven by Elder Arbon) and Elder Miller bought me a F'real Cookies and Cream shake for breakfast (I make bad breakfast decisions sometimes).

The fact that everything is going so well here right now makes me suspicious. Like I'm about to leave or something. We will see though. TUESDAY NIGHT!

Love you all! Enjoy the Turkey! (and snow, where applicable)

Lighthouse Analogy

The Lighthouse represents Jesus Christ: "I am the Light of the World" John 8:12
We are the "lower lights" that guide others to Him: "Ye are the light of the world" Matthew 5:14

Mini Temple

A member has a 3D printer and made us these models of a temple. This is the Dallas temple. But it could also be either the Boise Temple or the Lima Peru Temple. Elder Silva and I both got them

Q & A

1. Transfers! Any chance you know early this time? It’s Thanksgiving Week, after all. Any guesses if you don’t know?

Sadly no. We still find out on Tuesday night. Thanksgiving is just a normal day for us. My guess is that we both stay but anything can happen during a whitewash.

2. Do you need/want anything? Christmas is coming

Ok, after thinking about it this week and going on two exchanges I realized that I do need new sheets. The ones I have are getting holes in them from the constant moving around. (And using them as a bag to hold all my bedding)

3. Best day this week?

Saturday was pretty good. The Silva-door scandal happened. Also P's farewell party. The Drunk Restoration. And we helped a former missionary in this area propose to P's oldest sister G by lighting candles on a bridge in Hailey, it was cold outside. (She said yes so it's all good)

4. Best meal this week?

On exchanges in Shoshone we had breakfast for dinner for the first time in a good while. There were pumpkin pancakes. Those were pretty good. (Although I know you aren't a fan of pumpkin spice)

5. Favorite smell and least favorite smell in the Hailey area?

The pine trees smell really good. It’s bizarre how much they smell.
Least favorite is probably the fact that our bathroom doesn't have a door, just a curtain...

6. What are you studying? What did you learn?

We are still reading in Alma. Alma 29:8 is a good one that explains why so many cultures have their own prophets and beliefs that share a lot of similarities with each other.

7. Miracles? Answers to prayers?

Umm. We had 8 people (non-members) come to Church yesterday! Also we have two people who accepted a baptismal date for the 15th of December (in Richfield).

8. Funniest thing to happen this week?

Ok, so we went out with a member and he had to stop at the grocery store to get some ice cream. As we were walking out of the store Elder Silva opened a door of the wrong car.

IT HAD A LADY IN IT!

He said, "ohwrongcarsorry." and kept walking as though nothing happened.

The other you can read all about in “Funny Story of the Week” above.

Another funny part of that conversation (with drunk guy) was when he asked, "Do you know anything about that?" after telling us he believed in Hinduism. So I responded, honestly, that I had read the Baghavad-Gita (thanks ASMSA). His face when I said that was pretty classic too since he evidently hadn't heard of that one.

I really just wish I could have recorded the entire thing for you, it was incredible.

9. Most challenging day this week?

Hmmmmmmmmm. Probably Wednesday. But just because I had to do 7 baptismal interviews and I didn't know how to do that at first. They all passed and the Shoshone Elders had their baptism this past weekend. Pics are on FB I'm sure.

10. Any questions for me?

Honestly I can't think of any right now! Thanks for the updates. I like the picture of the tractor. I think you have more snow that we do so far. Actualmente no hay nieve aqui.

Love you!!!
