You may be in Southern Idaho if...

Since my email may be a bit short today, I will share a quote from Elder Blashill's email. For those who also receive his email, you can skip this part.

This has been a common topic of conversation throughout the week. But it's very true.

 1. If you go to church and shake hands with everyone and more than half of them are missing fingers, you might be in Southern Idaho.

2. If someone tells you to grab "a couple- three" of something, and even they aren't exactly sure how many "a couple-three" is, you might be in Southern Idaho.

3. If you walk into a store and you can justifiably assume that everyone in the check-out line with you is Mormon, you might be in Southern Idaho.

4. If taking meat out of the freezer is referred to as "unthawing", you might be in Southern Idaho. (to defreeze is thaw so unthaw makes no sense)

5. If the recipe calls for ground beef, and you scoff and substitute one of the following meats -deer, elk, moose, bear, goat, lamb, pork, turkey, or peacock-and serve it to dinner guests, yet no one complains, you might be in Southern. Idaho.

6. If your first remark after asking someone where they're from is, "oh
I'm sorry." you might be in Southern Idaho.

7. If an entire congregation of people don sackcloth and ashes, accompanied by weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth, in response to Californians movíng into the neighborhood, you might be in Southern Idaho.

8. If people refer to peeling out and making circles (ie doing donuts) is only referred to as "spinning cookies", you might be in Southern Idaho.

I would also add:

9. If you and your 8-fingered buddy were "out-to-malda" spinning cookies and poaching in your side by side (which is also your primary mode of transportation) and you seent a couple three elk stealin your water from the crick by the beet dump... you are DEFINITELY in Southern Idaho.

Ok, so this week was awesome, and today we had to use all of our hacker skills to get the internet at the family history center to work. (we had to turn the router on and off again... repeatedly)

We went to Mt. Harrison again as a district. We found this place where you could cut the ledge out of the frame and make it look like you were climbing a really high vertical ledge. So, for those worried about our safety, it's all good.

We also tried to take cool district pictures. We aren't quite unified when it comes to jumping I guess...

The next day I went on exchanges to Raft River again! We did the same goat manure job, I realized about halfway through that this job would have been completed a long time ago if someone just had a front end loader instead of us using pitchforks and wheelbarrows. Goats are pretty gross.

We also went and visited some people who live next to these really fancy pig farms. They raise the pigs and then harvest their heart valves for transplants, so they have to be super sanitary. IDK how on earth you keep a pig clean, but I guess they manage. The geese were next to the family's house.

Later that night F had his baptismal interview! So we had to move pretty quick to get his baptism planned in less than a week.

Fast forward a few days, we had exchanges again! This time I stayed in Declo with Elder Snow. We met the Malta Elders in Almo for a ward activity and exchanged there. We played baseball.

Gotcha! We actually played softball. I hit the ball a few times. I need help though. I have no idea what I am doing.

Exchanges were good. Elder Snow and I did service at the barnyard. We built fences and also helped "harvest" a turkey. As the lady we were helping was cutting it apart her 4 year old son was sitting behind her.

He said, "Mommy, I hope you never harvest me."

She responded calmly, " I will never ever EVER harvest you... besides, you wouldn't taste very good."

Good times.

Anyway, the week went on and F got baptized!! It was really great. His parents showed up and we got to meet them. There was also a really good showing from the members of the branch to support him.

People are really excited about missionary work around here right now so hopefully we can keep the momentum going and stay busy!

Speaking of momentum, we got to teach a lesson to the most famous person in Albion. He is really good friends with everyone between the ages of 10 and 100. He wants to be baptized, but has some anti influences in his family. But we taught him a super deep lesson and it went super well. He has already read the entire Book of Mormon, he is just afraid of getting his personal beliefs torn apart by his family.

Love you all!

Q & A

1. Do you need anything? I may need some money to buy meds. I'll try to pick some up this week.

2. Best meal this week? We had some pretty good chicken and potatoes. Nothing too extravagant this week.

3. What are you looking forward to this coming week? IDK, next week we have a mission tour from Elder Renlund, so that will be cool. This is going to be a kind of transition week.

4. Best thing about serving in Idaho? Having a lot of members helps, but also not too many. Otherwise we wouldn't have anything to do. Also, they get really excited when someone they know decides to get baptized

5. What did you learn this week? I talked to T.M. She doesn't think that the orthodontist in Burley can fix my old retainer, but he would probably make me a new invisalign-style one. He gave another missionary a set of braces so he may be able to help me. I'll call later and see if I can get an appointment next Monday.

6. What made you laugh this week? Lots of things. The entire turkey slaughtering situation was all sorts of wacky. Also, the family trying to help me do a cartwheel was pretty funny too.

7. What miracles have you witnessed on your mission? People getting called out by this one guy and them being humble enough to take it and change. He doesn't care at all what people think about him. He also does it very well, like "why don't I see you bearing your testimony?" Another miracle is just how well priesthood blessings work.

8. What are you studying? Favorite quote from it? Faith Is Not by Chance, but by Choice by Elder Neil L. Andersen, idk any particular quotes right now, but I'll think for next week. The entire thing is really good.

9. Anything scary happen this week? Honestly not this week.

10. What do you typically eat for breakfast these days? Sometimes nothing if I take my pill too early. Usually a bowl of cereal though.
